Invisalign®
Chicago, IL

When you are looking to get straight teeth, you may consider Invisalign or some other custom orthodontic system. But if you are already wearing braces and thinking of switching to invisalign this may be tricky. However, you can always discuss this with our dentist to know if it is possible. Invisalign is not for everyone. They are mainly suitable for people with minor teeth misalignments. Also, it is preferable for responsible individuals who are willing to follow the dentist’s instructions. Here at our dental office, Smile Dental Care, you can get a custom-made Invisalign. Some of the most common reasons our dentist may issue an Invisalign include the following.

Overbites and Underbites

Overbites and underbites are sometimes caused by genetics, but the good news is that they can always be corrected. Our dentist can issue Invisalign to help reduce crooked teeth. The problem with overbites and underbites is that they cause chewing and speaking problems. This is why it is essential to take your child to the dentist as early as possible to eliminate this problem. Also, if you have this condition, it is not too late to have it corrected. An overbite usually occurs when your upper teeth close too far from the lower teeth, while an underbite is where your lower jaw overlaps the upper jaw.

Open Bite

Also, if you have an open bite, it is vital to get Invisalign to correct the issue. An open bite is where a small or large space is left when you close your mouth. People with this condition also have speech problems, and some may have difficulties biting some foods. Open bites also occur at either side of your mouth, not necessarily in the front or the back. They can occur in any area of your mouth. If you have an open bite and misaligned teeth, it is likely due to one of these two things: incorrect oral habits or improper development during childhood.

Gapped Teeth

Gapped teeth are a common problem facing thousands of people, but luckily this can also be corrected using Invisalign. Gapped teeth can be unattractive and lead to self-consciousness about how you smile. These aligners are removable and reduce gaps without impacting your other teeth. Some people say that they feel more confident because of their straighter smiles. The best thing is that it is easy to start treatments right away with Invisalign.

How Long Do You Need to Use Invisalign?

Invisalign needs to be used for 20 to 22 hours every day until you feel your teeth have been completely straightened. You may need to wear them for a long time, depending on your dental condition. In some cases, Invisalign only needs to be used for six months to one year if you have a minor issue like gapped teeth. It is always best to confirm with the dentist how long you will need to use your Invisalign and if they need to be replaced. You may also need to wear retainers after your teeth are aligned to ensure they do not move back after straightening. For more information, check out our Invisalign® FAQ page.
