Implants Could Help Keep the Remaining Teeth Longer

Implants Could Help Keep the Remaining Teeth LongerPeople who lose their teeth slowly tend to have the remaining ones extracted to pave way for restorations. Dentures make a less costly choice than replacing a single tooth at a time or taking care of the remaining. However, it is important and healthier for the mouth to maintain the remaining teeth for as long as possible and replacement should only come when necessary.

Using Dental Implants to Ensure Healthier Teeth

When you have missing teeth, implants can help keep the remaining ones healthier. Often, people associate dental implants with a single tooth replacement whereby a crown is cemented onto an abutment attached to the post. However, single tooth implants can become expensive and perhaps challenging to place if you have to replace the entire arch of the teeth. Luckily, there are systems such as the All-on-4 Concept that utilize fewer posts, precisely about 4 or sometimes 6 posts to embed the implants or crowns.

Implants may also enhance the function of conventional restorations such as dentures. For instance, since traditional dentures are unable to prevent bone loss arising from loss of a tooth, when you have implant-supported dentures you minimize the chances of bone loss. The implants stimulate the growth of bone, hence slowing and even stopping bone loss.

Additionally, a traditional bridge involves bonding the outer crowns onto the teeth on either side of a missing tooth gap. Therefore, the support teeth have to be altered by grounding them down to accommodate the crowns. With implant-support bridges, this alteration doesn't have to be done. Therefore, the surface or crowns of the adjacent teeth to the missing tooth gap remain intact.

If you need a restoration that will help you keep the remaining teeth in good health, you can consider dental implants. Visit our office to learn how we can preserve the health of your teeth by installing dental implants to replace the lost teeth.
