Custom Sports Mouthguard Versus Store Bought

Posted on 2/7/2022 by Evan Admin
Custom Sports Mouthguard Versus Store BoughtMouthguards are an essential piece of equipment for athletes of all ages. Mouthguards protect teeth from being knocked out or fractured, and they also help prevent concussions. There are two types of mouthguards: custom-made and store-bought.

Custom-made mouthguards are made specifically for each individual athlete. They are fitted by a dental professional and molded to the shape of the athlete's teeth. Custom mouthguards offer more protection than store-bought mouthguards because they fit snugly against the teeth and gums. They also come in a wider variety of colors and designs, so athletes can choose one that matches their team's colors or their own personal style.
Store-bought mouthguards are not fitted to the individual's teeth, and they come in a limited number of colors. However, they are less expensive than custom mouthguards. Store-bought mouthguards are also easier to find because they are available at most sporting goods stores.

What if you've had dental work done?

If you have had dental work done, such as braces or a dental implant, you will need a custom-made mouthguard. Store-bought mouthguards are not made to fit around braces or implants, and they can actually damage teeth and gums.

Which is better: custom or store-bought? The answer depends on your needs and budget. If you want the best protection for your teeth and you have the money to spend, then go with a custom-made mouthguard. On the other hand, if you're on a tight budget or if you don't mind sacrificing some protection for convenience, then go with a store-bought mouthguard. Whichever mouthguard you choose, be sure to wear it during all athletic activities!

There is no doubt that custom-made mouthguards offer more protection than store-bought mouthguards. However, if you are on a tight budget, a store-bought mouthguard is better than nothing. Also, if you have had dental work done, be sure to get a custom-made mouthguard to ensure your safety. Whichever type of mouthguard you choose, make sure to wear it during all athletic activities!
