Why Do I Need a Teeth Extraction?

Posted on 11/22/2021 by Evan Admin
Why Do I Need a Teeth Extraction?Tooth and teeth extractions are among the most common dental procedures worldwide. Every tooth has a function inside our mouth, but if they pose a risk to adjacent teeth or our oral health, we recommend having them removed. At our office, our team of professionals is glad to inform you about the procedure and help you out through each step of the process.

Why Would You Need A Tooth Extraction?

Extractions are necessary when a tooth is severely eroded, damaged, infected, or has suffered from trauma and a restorative procedure cannot help. A tooth cannot remain inside the mouth if it is completely eroded, since there is a risk of infections spreading in the oral cavity and deteriorating adjacent teeth.

Wisdom teeth are often reasons to perform a tooth extraction too. Although they may not pose a risk in some patients, those who do not have enough space on their jawbone to let them erupt normally are at risk of getting them impacted, infected, or even misaligning the rest of their denture. No matter the case, it is always important to visit us for a previous consultation in order to evaluate your case and decide for the best course of action.

How Long Does A Tooth Extraction Take To Heal?

After a tooth extraction, it is normal for patients to feel discomfort from the following days up to a week or two. Swelling, stiffness, jaw discomfort or irritations are some of the common symptoms that patients express after they undergo tooth extraction.

If the discomfort worsens over time, it may be a symptom of an infection or a dry socket. It is important to follow our instructions for a healthy recovery and continue to visit us so we can monitor the process and avoid complications. By the 21 post-operatory days, the wound should be completely closed. Please contact us today if you want to learn more about this procedure.
